School

Ever since my parents bought The Beatles: Rock Band game a few months back, I’ve really been indulging myself in The Beatles’ music, movies, etc. hubbahubba Not only have they been dominating my whole iTunes library, but I noticed that they are even seeping into my schoolwork.
Examples: For one of my English assignments, we were asked to do a biography of any famous person we wanted, and I ended up doing it on John Lennon. For Journalism class, we have to start a kind of journalism blog and I decided to name mine, “Here Comes the Sun”. I incorporated their A Hard Day’s Night LP cover into a Photoshop collage I had to make in the beginning of the year.

I guess you could say this is my way of sharing my current obsession with the world. embarassed

Where am I going with this? Well, today my Media Arts/Communications Technology teacher introduced us to a new strand in our course: Typography excaim Our task is to first pick a song we like and then choose a nice font that connects to our song of choice. Next, we have to use only the lyrics of that song to create a piece of typographic artwork in Adobe InDesign.

My plan is to choose a song by The Beatles. I haven’t decided on which one, but I’m leaning towards their long medley called Golden Slumbers, Carry that Weight, and The End so that I can include the really great line at the end of The End:

“And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.”

Some examples of what I mean by “typographic” artwork:

Music

Since I don’t have school tomorrow, I decided to spend my Thursday evening watching something online. I decided against a sappy, cliché Korean drama and instead chose to see the French film, Amélie! content

It was actually really great despite the fact that I watched a fuzzy version on Youtube (I found out this HD version existed only after I finished the movie frustrate). The whole film has a bit of this sepia tone which reinforces its time period and setting (in Paris, of course!). I thought the lead actress did a great job of making her character shy but sneaky, and lonely but very loving. sparkle I actually laughed out loud in some parts like when her goldfish tried to commit suicide and the the scene where she wore a Zorro attire and drew a ‘Z’ on someone’s door. Online

Nothing in my life right now is really worth mentioning (read: school), so I thought I’d do something fun for once and feature some great photographers from Flickr who always inspire me with their pretty pictures and never fail to brighten my extremely mundane life. I got the idea from Decor8‘s Etsy Take Five Tuesdays which is a series of posts I really enjoy. cheese Let’s get started:

Chai Wong (Chai*):

I’ve seen this little box figurine everywhere in the internet lately and was determined to find out the source of all the cuteness. Finally, my search ended with Chai Wong‘s Flickr photostream which not only features her adorable boxed friend, Danbo (see her Danbo set here), but also of other beautiful nature shots. Danbo reminds me of another small figurine friend I adore: my milk toof.

Lola (sea shanties)

Here we have a girl whose flickr photostream is filled with very simple but dreamy images. There’s something nostalgic about each and every one of Sea shanties’ photos that I love. She also owns a blog that is equally dreamy.
