Since I don’t have school tomorrow, I decided to spend my Thursday evening watching something online. I decided against a sappy, cliché Korean drama and instead chose to see the French film, Amélie!

It was actually really great despite the fact that I watched a fuzzy version on Youtube (I found out this HD version existed only after I finished the movie
). The whole film has a bit of this sepia tone which reinforces its time period and setting (in Paris, of course!). I thought the lead actress did a great job of making her character shy but sneaky, and lonely but very loving.
I actually laughed out loud in some parts like when her goldfish tried to commit suicide and the the scene where she wore a Zorro attire and drew a ‘Z’ on someone’s door. LOL

One thing I regret not doing before watching this nice movie is BECOMING FLUENT IN THE FRENCH LANGUAGE. I think we can all agree that it’s nice to be able to understand the words coming out of someone’s mouth, so having to read the subtitles during the whole movie put a downer on me.
I guess I should just be thankful that it was subbed and not dubbed…

Some great quotes from Amélie: “Without you, today’s emotions would be the scurf of yesterday’s.” • “Failure teaches us that life is but a draft, an endless rehearsal of a show that will never play.” • “Times are hard for dreamers.” • “When a finger is pointing up to the sky, only a fool looks at the finger.” • “At least you’ll never be a vegetable — even artichokes have hearts.”
Soundtrack
Before I end this post, let me say how AMAZING the soundtrack is for this movie. Very French and nostalgic.
Or maybe I’m just biased because I love accordions and the oldies-type music.
