In art class, our teacher assigned us something called a “distortrait”. We’re supposed to make a cylinder mirror optical illusion like this:

The above picture is an example of a cylinder mirror optical illusion. This piece is by Istvan Orovitz. When you look the the paper under the cylinder, it just looks like an ordinary island. But when a cylinder is put, an image of Jules Verne is revealed.

We don’t have to do something as hard as this, but we’re supposed to have the same idea using a piece of famous artwork done by an eccentric artist. We’re also supposed to do a non-distorted portrait of the artist beside the distorted artwork.  nooo What I’m planning to do is make a cylindrical mirror optical illusion with one of Louis Wain’s cat artwork, then have a portrait of him displayed beside it. I never started the “distortrait” yet, but I did begin doing the artist portrait. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

Work-in-progress portrait of Louis Wain.

I’ll post the finished product once I’m done with it. Also, I thought he kind of looked like Dr.Phil in my portrait… does that mean I failed?! dead
