Thrift Store Love
When I was a kid, my dad used to always drag us along with him to one of his favorite places in the world: the thrift store. My dad bought most of stuff from there (shoes, jacket, other knick knacks) and I never understood why he couldn’t just buy new stuff even though there were more expensive (I guess that was just his thing). We went there so frequently that I guess you could say, after many outings there, my siblings and I became very familiar with the “thrift store smell”. And yes, there IS a smell! ![]()
I didn’t have as much fun as my dad during those trips when I was younger, but all that has changed
. I saw how great an outfit from the thrift store could be, and I realized that stores like Goodwill and Value Village are actually perfect places to find cheap, vintage clothes that no one else will have.
Now, instead of cringing at the idea of going to the thrift store, I actually have these weird urges to run there so I can fill my closet with, not junk, but great pieces of clothing. Also nowadays, you’ll find me actually begging my dad to drive me there…even if the place does have the “thrift store smell”..
I’m still an amateur when it comes to “thrifting”, but here’s what I got so far:
